Lotovention 2007 Summary
By Arthur Rein, #635
Almost every year I throw praise upon the recently completed Lotovention and this year will be no different.
This Lotovention will go down in history as the most highly publicized event in lotology history. All facets of the media were either on hand for the festivities or made mention of us as newspapers, radio and television wrote about us or talked about us.
This Lotovention would never have been the success that it was if not for the joint effort of Stephen Gilbert, #565, and Bill Pasquino, #14, who worked very hard during the past year to ensure its success.
Together they picked out the hotel, sent out press releases to the media, created goodie boxes and generally made sure that everyone present had a great time.
As someone who knows how difficult it can be to put together a Lotovention I would like to thank these gentlemen for their hard work and dedication. Without them there may not have even been a Lotovention this year.
Bill, and Stephen, any chance of doing this again in a few years?
Lotovention 2008 Will Be Held In...
There really wasn't much discussion as to the location for the next Lotovention. However, one thing was agreed upon and that was we needed someone locally to deal with everything. In previous Lotoventions I had to rely on whatever knowledge I got from the internet about a hotel and then hope for the best. Sometimes the hotels weren't very nice and sometimes we weren't treated very nice either. Having someone locally in a Lotovention area would allow a club representative to meet one on one with hotel officials and to possibly help with its promotion.
Only one person volunteered to help with next year's Lotovention and that was Club President Bob Heskett. Although Bob put together the 2003 Lotovention in Wheeling, West Virginia, Bob felt that there was another location near his home city that could be a good location to hold a convention rather than going back to the Wheeling area.
About twenty miles north of Wheeling, right where the northern most tip of West Virginia is squeezed between the eastern part of Ohio and the western part of Pennsylvania, there are several small cities within that area, such as Chester, and Weirton in West Virginia, and East Liverpool in Ohio.
Within the past few years a new casino has opened at the Mountaineer Race Track and several hotel chains have opened businesses in the area. Bob believed that we might be able to get a great price at any of the hotels in the area.
This location is within easy driving distance of the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Youngstown, Ohio airports.
