Orgin of the word lotology

In the July 1993 issue of the Lottery Collectors Society's (LCS) newsletter Jay Machinate (member #169) wrote in stating that he felt we needed a name for our hobby.

Two different names were submitted and were listed in the August 1993 newsletter.

- Stanley Odel member #398 suggested "LAGCHRONOLOGY".

- Bill Cupp member #390 suggested "LOTOLOGY".

Two other names were also submitted and appeared in the September 1993 newsletter.

- David Vazquez Trujillo # 371 suggested "LOTTEROPHILIA".

- Paul Ramien suggested "NOUNLOTTOLYSIS".

Ballots were sent out with the September 1993 newsletter and were to be returned postmarked no later than October 1, 1993 with a vote for one of the four names submitted. The following vote count is from the ballots received. Lotology was the name that had the majority of the votes.

LAGCHRNOLOGY 3 VOTES
LOTOLOGY 60 VOTES
LOTTEROPHILIA 21 VOTES
NOUNLOTTOLYSIS 1 VOTE
